The share of the population living below the absolute poverty line in georgia decreased by 3.8 percentage points in 2023 compared to the previous year, to 11.8 percent, the national statistics office of the country said on wednesday. The poverty wage and state minimum wage are for reference purposes.
Poverty, as defined by the government, takes into account income and the number of people in the household. Poverty wage estimates come from the department of health and human services’ poverty guidelines for 2024 and have been converted from an annual value to an hourly wage for ease of comparison.
